Traumatic Peripheral Vascular Injuries

Abstract
This report is consist of 76 cases of traumatic peripheral arterial injuries which was treated at department of surgery, Capital Armed Forces General Hospital, during the period from 1965 to 1976.
This result obtained were -as follow:
1. Most common causes of peripheral vascular injuries were G:S.W.(30cases) shrapnel wound (23 cases) stab wound (14 cases) blunt trauma (9 cases).
2. Most common vascular injuries of the above cases were femoral artery (28 cases) on the lower extremities and brachial artery (15 cases) on the upper extremities.
3. Vascular reconstruction was carried out by means of end to end anastomosis for 48 cases lateral repair for 14 cases, simple ligation for 10 cases, autogenous vein graft for 7 cases, and 4rosthetic graft for 2 cases.
4. Of. 70 vascular reconstruction, 47 cases were good, 13 cases revealed impaired distal blood circulation, and 13 cases were failed and amputated.
5. Analysis of the failure cases were made and found the predisposing factors.
1) Lag period -f m- injury to surge -y.
2) Severe soft tissue injury &bone fracture.
3) State of back bleeding from distal end of the injured vessel. 4) Post-operative wound infection.
5) Operation technique.
